It is hard to describe what prompted me to write serenade.

It was written long before construct came into being and, unusually for my style is for solo piano. When I wrote this piece I was going through a period of intense personal conflict and I guess the composition just sums up all that was going through my mind at that time.

The recording presented here was made in Dublin in the summer of 2001, a year after the piece was originally composed. To my knowledge the piece has never been performed since although at least one copy of the score is in circulation somewhere.
